Interview with Sloan Johnson

Before starting this Interview would just like to say thank you to Sloan Johnson for taking the time out to do this with me.

What is the hardest thing about writing?
  • It depends on the day. Some days, just sitting down to write is the hardest. Overall, the actual writing is the easy part. It’s everything else that’s insanely hard!
Have you ever had writers block - if so what got you through it?
  • All the time! For me, the only way past it is to walk away. Sometimes, that means walking away from the characters and diving into another project, other times it means my husband dragging me out of the house for a while.
Do you read much or at all?
  • Every single day. I’m an avid reader and probably spend at least two hours each night with my Kindle.
If you do read who/what are your favorite Authors/Genre?

  • It truly depends on my mood. Kindle Alexander, Aleatha Romig, Lisa Paul, LB Simmons, K Bromberg, Liz Crowe, Nicole Edwards and about a hundred that I’m forgetting to name here.
Do you read your books review?
  • Almost always. I even read the bad ones because when a review is based on their thoughts on the book or the story, I feel there’s something writers can learn about what readers like or don’t like. It doesn’t mean I’ll jump in and change things, but it’s good to be in touch.
If you were asked for advise from a aspiring writer what would you tell them?
  • Write. Seriously, even if you never publish your book, if you want to write, do it! And then do NOT rush to publish it! Find beta readers who aren’t afraid to tell you what doesn’t work for them (anyone can tell you that you’re amazing, but the ones who tell you that you suck are the ones to hang onto), find an editor you can trust and take your time to make sure it’s the best it can be.
Which Authors inspire you?
  •  It all depends on the day and in what way you mean. Neil Gaiman and Stephen King are two men I respect immensely for their views on writing and the publishing world. My author friends who are in the trenches every day inspire me to keep going when I want to quit. And authors who don’t give up and eventually break-out become role models for me to never stop writing.
Tell us a bit about yourself?
  • This is always the hardest question for me. For some reason, I can give you 50,000 words and more in a fictional story, but I clam up when it comes to talking about myself. (and if you could see the number of times I’ve deleted what I’m trying to say, you’d understand)

I’m really just this weird chick from Wisconsin who happens to get paid to listen to the voices in her head. I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember, but my first “structured” writing was at 15 in a writing group my dad was part of. There, I was forced to work on my skills because there were authors and a big 6 editor reading every word. It took me until I was in my early thirties to realize that I could actually write for a living. I started out doing freelance articles as a way to stay home with my kids, but you can only write so many how-to manuals before you want to gouge your eyes out with a spoon.

Now, I live in yoga pants and hoodies, I’m rarely seen without my coffee cup in my hand and my friends like to call me when I’m exhausted just to see what crazy things I’ll say.
How does it feel to have your work published?
  •  SURREAL! Seriously, you would think the shiny wears off, but every time another book comes out, it’s the same roller coaster of emotions.
Do you still like writing as much as you did when you first started?
  • I think I like it more because I’ve gotten rid of a bit of the self-doubt that was there when I started. Now, all that doubt revolves around whether my story will be well received rather than if I can put that many words together.
Where is your favorite place to write if you have one?
  • My favorite place is a cabin in the woods with no internet and no distractions. When I’m home, I have to write at my desk.
If you werent writing what else do you be doing?
  • Who knows! Honestly, I have done everything from managing a pizza parlor to working for a health insurance company to transcription. Now that I’ve found what I want to do for the rest of my life, I can’t even think of what else I would be doing.
What is your comfort food?
  • Cheese curds. Yep, it sounds weird and most people might not know what they are, but when I’m having a bad day, hubby will bring me a bag of cheese so fresh it still has whey on it and I’m in heaven!
Do you use a Pen name or Real name?
  • Pen name
Do you listen to music when you write?
  •  Absolutely! If I’m in a tough scene, it will be one song that fits the mood I need to create set to repeat, otherwise I have a playlist that is all of my writing.
The funnest thing happened at a signing?
  • Getting to talk to people is always the best thing about any signing! I still see names pop up on Facebook and can associate them with a memory from one signing or another.
The Scariest thing happened at a signing?
  •  While not scary, I have developed this bad habit of getting locked out of my hotel room at EVERY signing. It did lead to me spending the night walking around the Hard Rock Hotel in Vegas until after 6am one time.

What I Think

When i started this book it reminded me of a movie i have watched but as movies go they miss a lot that goes on and you only see the good parts missing the most important parts of the story.

i enjoyed this book and happy to give it a awesome rating to go with it.

Lucy Monroe has done a awesome job yet again, i really like hers books and recommend to read them if you get a chance to.

Interview with Carlie Sexton

I want to say thankyou to Carlie Sexton for taking the time out of her life and writing to do this Interview with me.

What is the hardest thing about Writing?

~ Right now the hardest thing about writing is finding the time to do it! I work full-time as a teacher and have been doing a lot to promote my books I have published. I have started my next book; Forgotten by You, but it is in its infancy stages.

Have you ever had writers block and if so what got you through it?

~ I have had writers block. I usually step away from writing, do something mundane like watch TV, then go back. After reading through what I am struggling with, ideas usually come.

Do you read much or at all?

~ I do read, but not as much as I used to.

If you do read who/what are your favorite Authors/Genres?

~ I love to read romance. My favorite writers are Nicholas Sparks, Raine Miller, Jacelyn Rye, Catherine Bybee, Riley Rhea.

Do you read your books review?

~ Yes. All feedback is helpful. I have made changes here and there because of a review. Sometimes people point out things that I just don’t think about. It’s important info.

If you were asked for advice from an aspiring writer what would you tell them?

~ It is extremely important to find a good editor/beta reader combo. It is very hard to find your own mistakes and getting another person’s point of view on characters and plot development is vital.

Which Authors inspire you?

~ Indie authors like Raine Miller and Katie Ashley are very inspiring. Being able to see writers make it without a big publisher is exciting.

Tell us a bit about yourself.

~ I was born in Louisiana, but my parents liked to move, so I lived in Hawaii, Minnesota, California, and Louisiana growing up. My parents divorced when I was ten, so I lived in Louisiana consistently until moving to CA when I was 19. I worked in retail while putting myself through college. Took me a little longer than most because I didn’t always carry a full class load. After graduating, I was an outside sales rep, but it wasn’t well suited for my personality. It took me years to figure it out. At 32, I married my husband. He encouraged me to become a teacher, so I went back to school , my got credential and then master’s degree. I began teaching at 35. I’m still teaching, but I have fallen in love with writing. It fills a void in my life and I work out issues through my characters, if that makes any sense. It’s kind of a therapy! My husband and I have been married for 12 years and we live in Southern California. He has inspired me to write the heroes in my books. Good thing he is complicated and I can compartmentalize his traits into a couple of characters (Neil and Mac).

How does it feel to have your work published?

~ It’s actually unbelievable to me that I have four published books. In August 2012, I was having a conversation with a coworker who told me he was going to expand a short story he wrote in college into a book. I thought, “I could do that.” I’m really proud of myself that I actually followed through. It has been an enormous blessing in my life.

Do you still like writing as much as you did when you first started?

~ I love writing, but being an author is about so much more than writing. An indie author needs to market on social media sites regularly, come up with their cover, blurb, website, go to signings, and more. Much of my time is spent promoting my books.

Where is your favorite place to write if you have one?

~ I have my own office with a chaise that I can recline on while writing. It’s nice to shut out the rest of the world and concentrate.

If you weren’t writing what else do you be doing?

~ I’m currently also a 2nd grade teacher. Can’t quit my day job just yet!

What is your comfort food?

~ Chocolate

Do you use a Pen name or real name?

~ Pen name

Do you listen to music when you write?

~ No. I really need quite when writing.

The funniest thing happened at a signing?

~ I’ve only been to one signing. I can’t think of anything funny that happened. Oh yeah, there was a costume party after the signing. My husband wanted to go as King Pharaoh. I was Aphrodite. Anyway, he won the costume contest, hands down.

The Scariest thing happened at a signing?

~ I only sold 3 books and a necklace!

What I Think

When I started this book I had the thought that it was going to be like all the others that i have read lately but to my surprise it was much better.

This book made me laugh and cry like a little baby and not many books can do that to me, you get so involved with the main characters that it feels like you are going through it yourself.

Rebecca is a amazing author that this happens when you read her stories. Jada And Jonathan will be in your hearts for a long time after you have read it. You will see once you read it i cant say to much because I many give something away that you didn't see coming. hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

I recommend this and the rest of the books Rebecca writes to me followers.

About The Author

Clara Kensie grew up near Chicago, reading every book she could find and using her diary to write stories about a girl with psychic powers who solved mysteries. She purposely did not hide her diary, hoping someone would read it and assume she was writing about herself. Since then, she's swapped her diary for a computer and admits her characters are fictional, but otherwise she hasn't changed one bit.

Today Clara is the author of romantic paranormal thrillers for young adults. Her first book, RUN TO YOU, a super-sized three-part serial from HarlequinTEEN, begins February 1 2014 with weekly releases. The sequel, also a super-sized three-part serial, begins June 1 2014.

Her favorite foods are guacamole and cookie dough. But not together. That would be gross.

What I Think

Run To You part I: First Sight

This book surprised me at first didn't think it as going to start like it did but i'm glad it did as it hooked me i love the thrill of what is going to happened next makes you want to read more before putting it down, i must say this book give me a book hungover i haven't had one of them in a while i was happy to have one if the rest of the parts are going to be the this first one you have very happy readers. i was going to start the second part right away but needed sleep. The story follows a family running and hiding for someone that is out to kill them, im still not 100% sure why but hoping it will come out in the second book which i think i alot will.

Run To You Part II: Second Glance

I started this book the next morning after finishing the first one and once again i could not put it down. the story gets more into everything. i want to tell you so much but that will be unfair for you as it will give away most of the middle of the story but there is secerts that will make you think why didnt i see that or if you did see it, it will make you say i so knew it. i cant say anything bad about any of the books.

Run To You Part III: Third Charm

i just cant believe what Tessa went though in this book the emotions you go through with her amazing writing by the author and now i cant wait until the last three parts come out and it cant come quick enough i was hook on this series from the the first word. and if the last three parts are anything like these it is going to be a amazing story. Clara Kensie is a awesome author and cant wait to read more of her work.

i give this series a 4 readers rating because it had me hooked from the first word of the first book and i cant wait for the rest to read..

Book Ratings

I highly recommend this series to any one that likes romance / thrillers.

Author Interview with A.L. Jackson

Before I get started with the interview i would like to thank A.L Jackson for taking the time out from writing to do this with me, she is a amazing author, one of my favorite authors and i'm so glad i know her.

What is the hardest thing about writing?

Definitely the amount of time it takes me. I’m a very slow writer, which can get frustrating.

Have you ever had writers block - if so what got you through it?

I usually take a break and read. There’s nothing like reading to fuel the imagination.

Do you read much or at all?

Yes, tons. I try to spend at least a couple hours reading before I go to bed each night.

If you do read who/what are your favorite Authors/Genre?

I love romance, any romance, but lately I’ve been reading a lot of NA Romance. My faves are Molly McAdams and Colleen Hoover.

Do you read your books review?

I only follow the reviews on my blog tours. I realize that not everyone is going to love my books, but negative reviews can definitely damage our creativity and cause us to question ourselves, so I try to be careful not to get into that.

If you were asked for advise from a aspiring writer what would you tell them?

Definitely to make sure you love writing and you’re doing it for the right reasons. Publishing is a difficult industry with a lot of ups and downs, but it is totally worth it if you love what you do.

Which Authors inspire you?

Oh my goodness, so many. I love reading the stories of fellow indie authors and how they’ve made it.

Tell us a bit about yourself?

Well let’s see…I’m married to my soul mate…still madly in love after almost twenty years. I have three amazing babies who aren’t quite babies anymore, but they’re my world.

How does it feel to have your work published?

AMAZING!!

I watched that video of you seeing your work on the shelf,  i thought it was awesome to see how much it means to the authors of the books. we don't get to it see that much. Thank you for sharing that with us.

Do you still like writing as much as you did when you first started?

Oh that’s a tough one…both yes and no. When I wrote Pulled, my first book, I did it with no expectations. So there was a lot of freedom in that and it was new and exciting, and definitely is one of the best memories of my life. And I truly still love writing. I just have to look at it a bit differently since it’s now my job. It adds new stresses, but it’s still something I adore doing.

Where is your favorite place to write if you have one?

I usually write at my kitchen table. Weird, right? Especially when I have a separate office and a writing cove in my bedroom. But I find I stay the most alert when I’m out in the middle of things.

If you weren't writing what else do you be doing?

Oh goodness, I don’t even know. That sounds like a nightmare ;)

What is your comfort food?

Mashed potatoes and gravy. YUUUUUUM!

Do you use a Pen name or real name?

Pen name

Do you listen to music when you write?

Usually to get me in the mood, but typically turn it off one I get absorbed in my characters.

The funnest thing happened at a signing?

Oh this is ongoing… I know everyone’s faces but can never remember their names.

The Scariest thing happened at a signing?

Ahh well that would be on the way to a signing. We had to leave our hotel in the middle of the night and went to my car to head to the airport and had a guy who obviously didn’t have good intentions approach us. Let’s just say I’d never gotten my car in gear as fast as I did then.

About The Author

Elizabeth O’Roark is a former medical writer who now lives in Washington, DC with her three youngish children.   She is an avid reader and runner, when she is able to escape the aforementioned children.  And she absolutely prefers writing fiction (a.k.a. just making shit up) to writing about liver transplants and amniocentesis.
“Undertow”, though completely fictitious, was heavily influenced by the 5 years she lived in Charleston, SC.  She is currently hard at work on her second novel, tentatively titled “The Finish Line”.

What I Think

I really liked this book the characters are just like you would find if you ran into them down the street (but they wouldn't be seen shopping for themselves) Jordan is just like the rest of the family all stuckup but Maura and her grandfather weren't like the rest they seen people as themselves not were they came from or how much money they had.

Jordan and Maura went to Paradise Cove every summer were a lot of the kids they knew did. She loved it there she met Nate there he was the Maids son. every year they would hang out with each other when Maura got older she seen Nate differently she started falling for him and him for her. but something happened and Maura didnt come back to Paradise Cove for five years.

She was graduating very soon and out of the blue Ethan, Jordan's best friend rang her and said he is in town and would love to catch up, she went out for dinner with him. one thing lead to another and they were seeing each other. Maura had been thinking that she should go back to the Cove as her grandmother was getting older and she didnt know how long she would be alive.

Im not going to say anything else as it will give things away and it is a really nice read
I gave this book a 4 readers rating it is on my must read list for this year.
