True Love may cost a price, if the greater good preordains that you are the sacrifice.

There are always two sides to a story. Melanie Wilhelm’s begins after
she moves from Australia and starts her senior year at Cashmere High.
On her first day, she bumps into a mysterious guy, and they form an
instant connection. They become friends and he shares his deepest secret
with her. As they grow closer, their relationship amplifies and becomes
binding. Strange things occur, but instead of worrying, Melanie’s
feelings intensify.

The excitement of New Year’s Eve approaches, and so does Jason’s most
devastating revelation of all. She learns his ultimate truth and is now
spun into his chaotic web. The danger rises and hard choices must be
made. By being with Jason, Melanie may have to sacrifice more than her
heart. It may cost her life.

Melanie’s Evanescent Journey ties into books one and two of The Sonar
Trilogy. From spiraling twists to devastating plots, her journey will
make you question fate and true love.

Is fate something you can control? Some believe it’s in the hands of what you behold.

Excerpt

The following Friday night Jason and I were in the family room eating
pizza. After we finished eating we decided to watch a movie. I had
never seen the Underworld series before, and now he had me hooked. We were on the sofa,
watching the fourth movie. He had me lying across his chest. Jaden
came into the room and seemed surprised to see us.

“Hey, Jaden.”
“What’s up?” Jason said to him. Jaden rolled his eyes, didn’t reply, and
walked away. Jason lifted us up on the sofa. “I will be back in a
second.”

“Okay.”
He followed Jaden. I was going to stay put until I heard Jason’s voice
rise. I bolted up and went into the kitchen. Harmony was in there
also. Jason was in his face and looked pissed. Jaden appeared
concerned, like he was trying to convince him to do something. None
of them saw me.

“What’s your problem?” Jason asked, gritting his teeth.
“I don’t think you should have her around with everything that’s
going on,” Jaden replied.

Were they talking about me?
“She doesn’t have anything to do with this,” Jason said.

“I think you are taking it too personal. He doesn’t mean any harm,”
Harmony said to Jason.
“It’s not right to involve her further, and you know it,” Jaden
interrupted.
“We don’t even have all of the facts,” Jason countered.
“We know enough. You are just too blind to see it.” Jaden threw in his
face.

They were talking about me, but why? None of it made sense. The last
statement Jaden said pushed Jason over the edge. He shoved Jaden in
his chest so hard he flew back into the refrigerator and slipped to
the ground. He got up fast and pushed Jason back.

“Guys, stop!” I yelled, frantic. Jason pushed him again and tried to get
him in a wrestler hold. Thank goodness Harmony rushed into the
crossfire and somehow managed to separate them. She had both of her
arms extended, one hand on each of their chests.

“You guys better cut it out right now! Don’t make me tell you twice!”
She commanded. They stopped struggling against her. Did she have a black belt in karate
that they obeyed her so readily? Jason looked at me, frowned, and bit
his lip. He seemed embarrassed by his actions. He walked toward me
and pulled me from the kitchen quickly. In the hallway he said, “I’m
sorry about that. Do you mind if we go back to your place?”

“Sure, but what’s going on?”
“Let’s talk about it in the car.”

Jason gathered my things and had me out of the house before I could blink.
He didn’t want me around his siblings; that was clear. He had
picked me up from my house so we were in his car. He blew out his
breath, and his forehead was furrowed. He was deep in thought and
didn’t seem like he wanted to talk.

“Are you going to tell me what that was about?”

“We are having some family problems.”

“Yeah, that’s obvious. What does it have to do with me?”

“Nothing.”

“That’s not what your brother thinks.”
“My brother doesn’t know what he’s talking about.”

“Well, your sister seemed to agree.” He didn’t answer. “Why does your
brother dislike me?”
He looked at me apologetically. “Mel, my brother and sister like you
just fine.”
“Why did you push your brother then?”

“We have been bumping heads for a while. Things just added up.”
“I don’t buy it.”

“Mel, you’re being paranoid. You are reading too much into this. My
brother and I have argued before. We are both hotheaded, so sometimes
things get heated.”

“I think there’s more going on than you are telling me. It’s clear
you don’t want to share. Just drop me off. I don’t want to talk
about it anymore.” I crossed my arms against my chest and looked
out the window.

“Mel,” he said, pouting. I ignored him, and he sighed.

At the next stoplight, he put the car in park. What was he doing? He
undid his seatbelt and lunged at me. I was shocked at his
aggressiveness. I was worried, irritated, and scared, but all of my
emotions unraveled in the kiss. It was explosive. He pushed his
tongue into my mouth and the watermelon substance expelled. He kissed
me like his mouth was made for mine. Within seconds desire pulsed
inside every vein in my body. I kissed him back fiercely and pulled
his hair. He moaned, and then several people started to blow their
horns. The light was green. He pulled back, breathing heavily, and
drove on through the intersection.

“Are you talking to me now?” he asked.

still felt high from his tongue of ecstasy. Why
was I mad again?
“I’m talking, but I don’t like you keeping me in the dark.”

“My family and I will get it sorted out, okay. But I don’t want you to
think you are the cause of the problem. That’s not the case. Are
you really not going to let me come in?” he asked, pulling into my
driveway. A few minutes ago I would have said no, but after the way
he kissed me, I couldn’t. He kissed me that way on purpose just so
he could have his way with me.

I have very vivid dreams and a wild imagination. I like to read, watch
tons of TV shows, and movies. I’m addicted to romance and get a thrill
out of action and suspense. I write New Adult Fantasy, Sci-fi, and
Paranormal-Romance.

In the Sonar series it was fun to explore different elements of Sci-fi
romance and create various realms of powers for my characters. I want to
show my readers that Sci-fi can be fun, but also traumatic. I hope you
guys enjoy the Sonar Series.

Excerpt

I complete another tour around the baggage carousel and recheck the
time. Hobart International Airport needs to review its name. The last overseas
flights were canceled years ago.
The wall clock taunts me. Surely more than three minutes have elapsed
since the last time I checked.          The distant engine drone cuts through the
terminal chatter, growing steadily louder. My scalp prickles. God, I despise
air travel. Only a few more minutes and she’ll be safe on the ground, here in
Tasmania, crossing the tarmac. Breath bottles in my chest. I rub my palms on my
jeans and pull down my hat.
         Talia.
A thousand images strike my brain like sudden lightning. Her sexy
lips quirking when she’s privately amused or ragging on me. Those bright eyes
and wild hand gesticulations. The way my whole body simultaneously revs and
calms from her touch.
Muscles fire down my body’s length, concentrating a heated flare in
one particular region.
         Down, boy.
         Fucking hell, I’m nervous.
A typical bogan, red-faced and outfitted in a faded rugby shirt,
jostles against me beside the arrival door. He fails to subdue the supersize
rose bouquet exploding out of his beefy arms. “How ya goin’, mate?” he asks
with a proud shrug, proceeding to mistake my aggravation for polite interest.
“Got to treat the missus right, ’ey?”
I avoid humoring this blokey conversation by giving a curt nod.
         Shit.
Talia isn’t expecting flowers, is she?
The thought never occurred to me. I yank a retractable pen from my
back pocket and click the button.
         Tick, tick, tick.
The bogan peers through the lifeless blooms; his thick lips frown
in my direction.
         Tick, tick, tick.
Never understood the big attraction in giving a girl dead blossoms
as a symbol of affection.
         Tick, tick, tick.
The bogan grumbles under his breath and moves away.
I can’t help irritating dudes like him. It’s a gift.
Outside the terminal, a thunderous engine roar signals touchdown.
The din dials to a high whining hum as the plane taxis. It’s been two months
since I flew halfway around the world and begged Talia for a second chance.
Despite everything, a miracle happened. She took my dumb ass back. I wondered
if she’d wise up, reconsider. Moving to Australia is a big deal. Takes effort,
commitment.          Would have been easy to back out.
Will she ever know—truly grasp—that I died a little every day
waiting for her?
The first passengers trickle in, becoming a flood. I dismiss the
unknown faces.
         You don’t matter.
         Don’t care about you either.
         Or you, love. Shuffle along.
         The crowd shifts.
         There.
Familiar copper eyes lock with mine and doubt evaporates. In three
steps—four if you count me sidestepping the human rosebush—Talia is in my arms.
         “Hey, you,” she whispers.
I spin her around and the whole world blurs like a piece of
abstract art, our lips the only concrete entities. She tastes exactly the
same—warm, salty, with a hint of mint. This is a kiss of victory. Talia and I,
we pulled off an impossible stunt.

About the Author

Lia Riley writes offbeat New Adult Romance. After studying at the University of Montana-Missoula, she scoured the world armed only with a backpack, overconfidence and a terrible sense of direction. She counts shooting vodka with a Ukranian mechanic in Antarctica, sipping yerba mate with gauchos in Chile and swilling XXXX with stationhands in Outback Australia among her accomplishments. When not torturing heroes (because c'mon, who doesn't love a good tortured hero?), Lia herds unruly chickens, camps, beach combs, daydreams about as-of-yet unwritten books, wades through a mile-high TBR pile and schemes yet another trip. She and her family live in Northern California.

-
MICHELE WOLFE
Adjusted Headshot

Growing up between the Rocky Mountains and the city of Denver in Colorado, gave me a life-long love of both. I suspect my experiences were similar to others my age in the 70s and 80s; summers in one-piece bathing suits; bicycle riding without a helmet; vacationing in the family station wagon; skiing down the local mountains. I am the youngest of three girls and lucky enough to be supported by friends and a loving extended family.
I loved drama, singing, gymnastics and ice skating. And I was never without a good book, no matter where I went. Soon after finishing college and becoming a teacher, I decided I wanted to explore the world. I took long road trips, spent time at Martha's Vineyard, and fell in love with the ocean and California, which eventually became my home.

Four years after moving to Los Angeles, I discovered two things that changed my life. My husband was the first. We fell in love hard and fast. Twenty-two years later, we are fully, after a lot of hard work, co-dependent and co-evolved, and very happy about both. The second discovery was a passion for teaching adults English as a Second Language in a poor immigrant community in East L.A. I'm still there, too.

My husband and I have two handsome sons, Caleb Justus and Joshua William. They are our pride and joy. Caleb is in the Army and Joshua is finishing high school. And I should mention our 'girl' Sophie, who loves running to and fro on our walks, dancing in the kitchen, her tail-wagging in joy.

Being a busy teacher, mother and wife made finding time to write a challenge. When I started my first novel, there was no space in our little home to write except at the kitchen table. I diligently carved out time on the weekends and eventually took my laptop to coffee shops and writers' groups to finish it.

When writing, I let the story and characters come to me in their own time, in their own way. I am inspired by music and art, which often influence a scene or a conversation in my stories. I hope my writing inspires others and makes people think and feel. And of course be entertained.

I am working on my next novel, also about a work of art, this time a painting at the Museum of Modern Art in Rome.

LYNETTE ENDICOTT
Adjusted Headshot

Lynette Endicott grew up in Illinois, met her husband in Western Nebraska, lived 25 years in Kansas where their daughter was born, and has been in Fresno, California since 2000. She has a son-in-law (who lives with her daughter nearby), and has rescued a dog, a bird and three cats. She and Ollie, her terrier mix, volunteer as a team at the local library, where children read to the dog.

At a youth camp when she was 14 the editor and teacher of a writing class challenged her to submit something to his youth magazine. She did and it was the first of 10 articles and stories accepted by the publication over the next few years.

Nothing like front end success to keep her writing! Lynette enjoys reading contemporary romance and speculative fiction and writes both. Her debut book, Starting Over Book One: More Than A Job, and two more books in that series, The Return of Joy and Finding Her Voice are available now. The first three of the Time After Time Saga with Tami Dee are available now, including Animal Instinct, Survival Instinct and Pioneer Instinct. The fourth in the series of six, Protective Instinct, will release in August 2014.

Because she didn't have pets until after her 50th birthday the animals she enjoys find their way into all her books. Usually you will also find a character with a disability as part of the day to day fabric of the story. In More Than A Job, Paige works in services to people with disabilities until she loses her job and starts over. In The Return of Joy, Atlas, the yellow lab, becomes a Therapy Dog. In the Time After Time series animal helpers assist the hero and heroine in all six of the books in the series.

-
DEBRA PARMLEY
Adjusted Headshot

Debra is a multi genre author born in Columbus, Ohio and raised in Springfield, OH. She has lived just outside Memphis, TN since 1997. Debra attended Marywood University in Scranton, PA and was the first student to win first place in two categories of the Delta Epsilon Sigma Beta Epsilon Chapter writing competition, in creative prose and in informal expository. Her poetry was published in literary journals while attending college. She holds a BA in English Literature.
When she graduated she asked her academic advisors which genre she should concentrate on. None of them would advise her because she showed strength in each area. Advice at the time and for many years afterward was to concentrate in one area and to focus on one genre. But only she could decide which one.
In 2012, Debra decided this was not working for her and forged her own path. This meant writing in more than one genre and working on more than one manuscript. She no longer believes in writers block. She believes in finding joy in the act of writing and in allowing her muse to play. For Debra, writing is about joy.

Today she teaches Creative Writing classes locally, passing on what she has learned and finding the joy in teaching as well.

Debra traveled and worked as an independent travel consultant. She has visited thirteen countries. She has worked in banking, newspaper advertising, as recycling cocoordinator for the City of Bartlett, as an office manager, and as a belly dance instructor.

When not writing, Debra enjoys dancing, history, primitive archery and medieval reenactment, travel, yoga and meditation.

It is one of her greatest pleasures to hear from her readers.

LM PRUITT
Adjusted Headshot

L.M.Pruitt has been reading and writing for as long as she can remember. A native of Florida with a love of New Orleans, she has the uncanny ability to find humor in most things and would probably kill a plastic plant. She knows this because she's killed bamboo. Twice. As a result, she's not allowed to walk in the gardening department of any store without supervision. She's also not allowed in the card aisle of any grocery without an escort since she'll spend thirty minutes opening cards and laughing for no good reason. She continues to make her home in Florida in spite of the heat and mosquitos and shares her home with two cats. One of them smart, the other not so much.

-
AMY L. GALE
Adjusted Headshot

Romance author by night, pharmacist by day, Amy Gale loves rock music and the feel of sand between her toes. She attended Wilkes University where she graduated with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree. In her spare time she reads and writes and tries to sustain her wanderlust, whether it's the Carpathian Mountains in Transylvania, the highlands of Ecuador or a road trip to the next town.
After attending three different universities without managing to square a degree, she decided to the next logical thing; become a writer. Always on the lookout for her next adventure, in print or reality, she dreams of one day proving to the masses that everything really is better in Texas.

She is the author of the Heaven's Edge series, Stay and Silver Hollow.

LAUREN MARIE
Adjusted Headshot

LaurenMarie spent years writing and dreaming of being published. After spending many years wanting to write the ultimate thriller and become the next Le’Carre, Clancy, or Turow, she decided to try romance. She admits, with a huge smile, she’s never had so much fun. Lauren lives with her four cats in Western Washington State. When she isn’t pounding the keys, she is an amateur paranormal investigator. She formed her own group in 2006 to hunt ghosts and some unusual experiences have put in an appearance in some of her stories. Lauren is currently working on a contemporary romance called the Canon City Series.

JILLIAN HART
Adjusted Headshot

Jillian grew up on her family's homestead on Washington state, near Carnation, Washington, where she raised cattle to pay for her college tuition, rode horses through the pristine foothills of the Cascade Mountain range and scribbled stories in her spare time.
After earning an English degree from Whitman College (what better way to go through college than to constantly read books?), she traveled, worked in advertising, taught Sunday school and volunteered before becoming a writer.

When she's not hard at work on her next story, Jillian can be found chatting with a friend, stopping for a café mocha with a book in hand, and spending quiet evenings at home with her family.

LARA NANCE
Adjusted Headshot

Lara Nance grew up and lived in many cites throughout the South. She loves to write in a variety of genres, but the basis of all of her stories is a great tale that will take you on an adventure of imagination.
If you want to escape and lose yourself in a novel, you've come to the right place. Choose your genre and settle in to be entertained. From thrilling mysteries and steampunk tales to paranormal romance and adventure, she's willing to explore a variety of compelling stories full of danger and suspense, along with a touch of romance.
Her first paranormal romance, Memories of Murder, won RWA's New England Chapter's readers' choice award in 2012 for Best Paranormal Romance, as well as an award of merit as Best Book from a Virginia Author in the Holt Medallion contest. In 2013, her novel DraculaVille - Discovery in New York, won the Rudy award for best novel with romantic elements.

Lara's newest endeavor is under the name L.J.Nance, a children's book series titled: Lyra's Ocean World. The first book is out now: Lyra to the Rescue. The illustrator is Karen Webb.

Most of Lara's books are in print, electronic and audio format, with others soon to follow.

Having been on the fencing team in college and now living on a sailboat convinces her that she was a pirate in another life, or possibly kin to Errol Flynn... However, due to the unfortunate demise of the romantic pirates of the past, she lives out her fantasies, thrills and adventures in her stories. Lara loves to weave interesting true historical tidbits into her fiction which invite the reader to explore further after the novel is finished.

Currently docked in Norfolk, Virginia (until the wind changes) Lara enjoys living on her sailboat and spends time reading, of course writing, indulging a variety of artistic endeavors, cooking and sailing with her husband, Joe and their Yorkie, Rio.

ANGELA KNIGHT
Adjusted Headshot

I have been writing erotic romance since 1996, when my first novella appeared in Secrets Vol. 2. In June, 2004, Jane's Warlord, my first novel, was published, followed by FOREVER KISS in July, 2004 the anthology HOT BLOODED in September, and MASTER OF THE NIGHT in October. MASTER OF THE MOON, my next book, hit the USA Today list for three weeks, much to my amazement. Since then I've been writing like a lunatic and having a wonderful time.
I've been married to a wonderful man for more than twenty years now. He's a senior investigator with our county sheriff's office. As a result, I know an awful lot of cops, which is one reason I love putting police procedural elements in my fiction. I also spent ten years as a reporter, which gave me a collection of war stories you would not believe.

My husband Mike and I have one son, Anthony, who is in his twenties now.

Excerpt

I can’t get her to look at me, I think she’s ashamed that she has no experience to go with. When I’m finally begging, she looks up and I can’t help it. She looks so lost, so sad. I know that she just needs the courage, but how will she ever find it if she doesn’t know what the reward is like? So I lean over, I place my hand on her cheek, and my lips on hers.

She doesn’t freak out, so I use my tongue to entice her. I run it along her lower lip. I feel her breathing pick up and I’m nervous she’ll push me away, but when she doesn’t I try to coax her lips apart so I can really kiss her. When she opens them, her tongue meets mine and I have to keep repeating to myself, “Slow, slow, slow,” or my body might take over and try to push her past her limits. She’s not ready for more than this.

I don’t let myself linger too long. I would love to kiss her all night, but she needs baby steps. I need to give her that or this won’t work. “I’m sorry. I couldn’t help myself, but I should’ve made sure it was okay first.” I say it knowing that she needed the surprise of it or it would’ve never happened.
Her response takes me by surprise, “Don’t. Be. Sorry.” She is breathing hard and can’t form a sentence. I love it. That means she loved it.

When she brings her hand up to touch her lips, I know I can make this better for her. I stop her hand with mine and leaving the other on her cheek, I lean back in for a deeper kiss. She responds immediately. I make this one longer, but not much. This time when I pull back, we are both panting for air.
“Wow.” A simple statement from her confirming that she liked it.

EROTIC DARK

“You are under our protection," Preston said. "And we will not hurt you unless you have earned a punishment through disobedience. At the moment, you are clearly in need of a bit of discipline to remind you that you have chosen to be here.”

Lydia swallowed hard, her eyes flashing with a rising bubble of rage that threatened to burst forth. Preston’s hand slipped down underneath her bottom, splaying over her upper thighs and cupping the fleshy cushions in his palms. His groin brushed against her bare buttocks in a movement edged with lecherous enjoyment.

“Come, love. Kruin will do the honors.”

Nervously, Lydia’s gaze slipped to Kruin. His dark eyes watched her with a hint of dislike and coldness, his body as rigidly unyielding as the high-backed oak chair on which he sat. Lydia wrapped her arms around herself and shivered.

“Lydia.” Kruin’s deep voice echoed in the room. “Come here.”

Of the three of them, even Preston knew Kruin was the most difficult to disobey. Lydia walked across the room slowly, as if she knew what he would do to her yet unable to prevent it. At his instruction, she settled over his hard thighs, wincing when he lifted her skirt and arranged it with almost meticulous care over the expanse of her back.

A smile curved Preston’s lips. He settled into his chair. Lydia’s back arched forward in a graceful bow, her hipbones pressing against the top of Kruin’s thigh.
How Preston adored seeing her like this, reduced to being the recipient of a punishment as base as a spanking. Her pale buttocks quivered, as if trembling with dread for the discomfort that would surely result from Kruin’s large hand.

Preston shifted, feeling his penis start to expand at the thought of Lydia’s anxiety. Oh, how he wished he could be the one to administer her first punishment. He would love to feel her helpless weight over his muscular thighs, the growing furnace of her buttocks as he rained his palm over the smooth cheeks until they glowed and burned with the rosy evidence of his control.

All in good time, Preston reminded himself, still unable to prevent the stab of envy when Kruin landed the first loud slap on Lydia’s rounded backside.

EROTIC LIGHT

Lydia slid her hand down her rounded belly and between her legs. She closed her eyes. For a moment, she just cupped her hand over her sex and felt the heat emanating from her skin. Her clitoris pulsed.

She was struck by the sudden urge to feel Preston, Kruin, and Gabriel behind her, around her, their gazes hot with lust as they stared at her prone naked body, her sex spread open, pink and glistening, her bottom cleaved apart to expose the dusky aperture that only Preston had thus far breached.

She shuddered. Which one of them would take her? Would she hear the rasp of Kruin’s leather belt as he removed it? If so, would he choose to spank her with it or would he take out his big, thick cock and mount her from behind in one of his hard, fast fucks that made her whole body shake? Would she feel Gabriel’s hand stroking the length of her spine, the clench of Preston’s grip on her hair?

Once Kruin was finished with her, would Preston take his turn and press his erection into her mouth, whispering lewd things about her sensual nature and inability to control her own pleasure? And then would Gabriel be the one to slide his fingers between her legs and murmur his consent, allowing her to spend all over his hand while the three of them watched her ride the pleasure of orgasm?

Yes. Yes to all of it.
